Welcome to Cairo!
Established in 1803...We are Cairo and we Care...
From our breath-taking views, extraordinary our cultural and economic expansion with the New Town Library, Hannaford Supermarket, Town Park...come visit's not just a visit, it's an experience!

As the Crossroads of the Catskills, Cairo is a rural community in Greene County, located about 35 miles South of Albany and ten miles West of the Hudson River.  Formed as Canton on March 26, 1803 from parts of Coxsackie, Catskill, and Freehold, then re-named Cairo on April 6, 1808.

Visit, explore, and live in Cairo amidst the Great Northern Catskills of New York in Greene County!

"I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright." Henry David Thoreau

There's a new phone system for the Town...
The Main number is 518-622-3120 and from there you can reach your department. The new centralized phone system is working out some gliches and the phone company is working through those diligently. After decades without a centralized phone system, we are consolidating multiple phone lines.

Our Heroes...
Proudly, the Cairo Historical Society will continue their "Town of Cairo Hometown Heroes Banners Program" this May. It's a living tribute to the servicemen and women from the Town of Cairo who served our country from the Revolutionary War to the present day. Each banner will honor a specific Town of Cairo former or present serviceman or woman and will include their picture, branch of service, and military conflict in which they served. The banners will be displayed from May to September. The banners will be hung on lampposts that line Main St. & Mountain Ave, as well as other streets to be named.
God Bless our servicemen and women and their families!
